About the Université Loyola du Congo (ULC)
Our Identity: Igniting a New Generation of Ethical Leaders
The Université Loyola du Congo (ULC) is the premier Jesuit institution of higher education in Kinshasa, dedicated to shaping ethical, resourceful, and critically engaged leaders for the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa.
Founded in 2016 by the Society of Jesus, our university is built upon a profound and enduring legacy of Jesuit educational excellence that began in Kinshasa as early as 1954.1 We embody the Ignatian ideal,
“Ite inflammate omnia” (Go set all afire), believing that true education must ignite a passion for justice and service that transforms society.2
We are more than an academic institution; we are a center for sustainable, united, and inclusive development.1

A Legacy of Transformation (Our History)
The history of the Université Loyola du Congo is a story of merging two long-standing Jesuit commitments in Kinshasa into one modern university:
1. Jesuit Educational Tradition (1954): The Jesuits established educational efforts in Kinshasa beginning in 1954, specifically through the Faculty of Philosophy St. Peter Canisius.2
2. Agroveterinary Expertise (1994): The Agroveterinary Higher Institute (ISAV), which later became the Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences, was established in 1994.1
ULC was formally established in 2016 through the official merger of the Agroveterinary Higher Institute (ISAV) and the Faculty of Philosophy St. Peter Canisius, inheriting the infrastructure and decades-long experience of both institutions.2
